Preparation Tips Talk only for yourself; do not talk for the other person because he or she can speak for themselves.
Use blame-free language because if blaming or attacking worked, you would already have settled your issues.
Listen without interrupting – just because you are listening to each other does not mean you agree. It is important that each person have a chance to be heard.
Bring documentation to support factual information needed to resolve any of your issues.
Allow adequate time to do this work. Mediation is a hands-on process where progress depends entirely on how you participate.
Be ready to make your own decisions. If you need legal advice on issues in order to make informed decisions, then be willing to get that advice as you need it.
If you need help with these ground rules or identifying your needs, interests, fears, concerns and goals and/or those of your children, let us know so that we have a chance to coach you and assist you in succeeding at this endeavor. Again, if you are willing to do this, you will succeed.
